Training
Requirements
Regular Monthly Training:
Monthly training is held on the second Saturday of every month. Additionally,
there is one monthly evening team meeting on the fourth Thursday of
the month. These meetings incorporate team business and classroom training.
Meeting and training dates may change in holiday months.
New Member Training Requirements:
New members cannot participate in an incident unless they have the minimum
training for that particular type of incident. New members will be probationary
team members for at least one year or until all training requirements
are met.

All new members (Technical, Search and Support) must participate
in a 6 hour orientation/introduction to SAR course.
Once members have completed the orientation, they are qualified as a
support member and can participate in call-outs as
a support member.
- All members must hold a current First Aid and CPR card in order
to participate in any activity except training. JOSAR will
provide at least one First Aid / CPR course per year, and will provide
at least one First Aid / CPR refresher per year.
- New Technical members must complete 40 hours of Basic Technical
Training and pass a proficiency skills check to qualify
for the technical team.
- New Search members must complete 36 hours of Basic Search Training
and pass a written and skills proficiency test to qualify
for the search team. Search team members may have an opportunity
to take the National Association of Search and Rescue (NASAR)
SARTech II certification test.
