Time Commitment

The Park SAR coordinator has discretion to evaluate special circumstances in regard to minimum required time, ie: leave of absence, personal emergencies etc.

Minimum Participation Requirements:
- Technical Team Members are required to participate in 8 technical trainings per year.
- Search Team Members are required to participate in 4 search trainings per year.
- Support Members are required to participate in 2 technical and 2 search trainings per year.
- All Members are required to participate in 6 out of 11 monthly weeknight team
  meetings per year.

Additional Required Hours:
All team members are required to volunteer an additional 18 hours each year outside of incidents and regular training. This time could be spent doing some of the following: Working on team projects, assisting with new member and staff training, working at park events or programs, team administrative tasks, etc.

Minimum Training Time Commitment Per Year (after first year):

Training and Team Meetings
Technical Team only = 82 hours/yr.
Search Team only = 50 hours/yr.
Search and Technical Team = 114 hours/yr.
Support Team = 42 hours/yr.

Inactive Status (Leave of Absence):
Members on inactive status may not participate in any team activity except training and will be removed from the call out list.

Voluntary Inactive Status:
All non-probationary members may voluntarily go on inactive status for up to 1 year if needed. Members planning an absence of greater than three months must make arrangements by notifying the SAR Coordinator in order to be put on voluntary inactive status.

Involuntary Inactive Status:
Any member who does not participate in training or meetings for a period greater than 3 months will automatically be put on involuntary inactive status. Anyone who is put on involuntary inactive status will be notified. If the member does not respond or make arrangements to be put on voluntary inactive status, their volunteer agreement will be terminated.

Requirements for Return after Inactive Status:
In order to respond to callouts after being inactive you must:

If Inactive less than 6 months:
    Participate in one training per specialty and one meeting
Less than 1 year greater 6 months:
    Participate in two trainings per specialty and two meetings
Greater than one year:
    The volunteer agreement will be terminated. If in good standing, you are welcome
    to come back to the team, but must meet new member criteria or show proficiency
    in your specialty.
